Frequently asked questions
How do I report the smell?
Use the complaint form on our homepage while you smell it, or as soon as you can. It takes about two minutes. The form logs an anonymous record of the odor and opens a pre-filled email to the Georgia EPD East Central District, which you send from your own email account. You can also call EPD directly at (706) 667-4343.
Is my name kept private?
Your name, email and phone number are never saved with your report or shown on the map. The map only shows an approximate location, generalized to about a 1/4-mile area. The email you send to EPD does come from you, so EPD will see your name and email address. That email asks EPD to keep your identity confidential and not share it with the facility, but this is a request, not a legal guarantee. For full anonymity, call EPD at (706) 667-4343 instead.
What happens after I report?
Georgia EPD receives your complaint and may follow up or investigate. Your report is also added to the public odor map and tracker as an anonymous data point, building a lasting record of when and where neighbors smell odors from the Darling Ingredients rendering plant. Clean Air GA does not control what EPD does with a complaint.
Who runs this website?
Clean Air GA is an independent group of residents of East Dublin and Laurens County, Georgia. We are not affiliated with Georgia EPD, Darling Ingredients, or any government agency.

Odor and your property taxes
If you believe nearby odors hurt what your home would sell for, Georgia law lets you challenge your assessed value. Fair market value is what a knowledgeable buyer would pay.
Appeal within 45 days
After your annual assessment notice arrives, file form PT-311A with the Laurens County Board of Tax Assessors within 45 days of the notice date. Evidence like a certified appraisal or comparable sales helps.
Missed it? File a return
